PocketGeek Home Avatars

Personalized Avatars for a Smart Support Experience

Role: Art Direction, Illustration, UI Design

Design Tools: Figma, Adobe Illustrator

As part of innovation efforts within the PocketGeek Home product team, I explored how personalized avatars could transform the in-app experience—making it feel more approachable, human, and emotionally connected. These avatars would serve as digital companions, guiding users through tech support, diagnostics, and service requests.

The Challenge

PocketGeek Home offered robust support tools for helping users cover multiple devices and filing claims, but lacked a warm, personalized touch. The product team wanted to explore:

  • How avatars might build emotional connection

  • What personality traits users value in digital helpers

  • How to maintain trust and professionalism within a branded app experience

Research and Strategy

We conducted early user testing and moodboarding to determine:

  • Preferred visual styles for avatars

  • Tone of voice that felt helpful, not gimmicky

  • What kinds of interactions felt natural in a support setting

From there, I developed early concepts of avatars that ranged from sleek and minimal to playful and expressive—testing options across user demographics.

Final Design Approach

I led visual exploration for the avatar system, the final designs used anthropomorphic tech as a concept, designing a series of avatars that loosely mirrored the devices eligible for coverage in the PocketGeek Home app. The avatar system considered:

  • Visual Consistency with the PocketGeek Home brand

  • Expressiveness Without Overload—avatars needed to convey emotion without distracting from core functionality

  • Scalability for future design options
